FastCap FastCap ProCarpenter Tape Measures
The line that retired my Milwaukees in the wood shop. Best-made, lowest-cost, highest bang-for-the-buck tapes I've found.
A hands-on, first-hand list of the tools, measuring gear, and shop supplies I recommend, with a short note on each: why I carry it, what it beats, and who it's for.

Calipers, squares, gauges, and marking tools. Getting it right before you cut.
FastCap The line that retired my Milwaukees in the wood shop. Best-made, lowest-cost, highest bang-for-the-buck tapes I've found.
The grab-it-without-thinking core: drivers, pliers, wrenches, and what holds it all together.
Knipex I've picked up a crescent wrench maybe twice in two years. These parallel jaw pliers are why.
Recent pickup. Full write-up coming once I've put it through some real use.
Wera Everything I like about Wera's BlackLaser hex keys, in stainless. The reason I own them: they do not pick up magnetism, which saves you when you are working around rare-earth magnets.
Wera Wera makes their hex keys unlike anyone else. The Hex-Plus profile grips so well it is nearly impossible to strip a screw, and the color-coded sleeves mean you grab the right size the first time.
Wera Hands down the best Torx L-key set I have owned. Ball-end Torx from T15 up, and the larger keys drive tamper-proof security Torx as well as standard.
Wera The Rapidaptor chuck is what sold me on Wera. Push to release, drop a bit in, and it locks itself dead tight, one-handed.
Wera No dialing a size. You push it onto the hex, the jaw sets itself, and it ratchets in a tight 30 degree swing.
Knipex The water-pump pliers that retired my channel-locks. You feel the quality the second you pick one up.
Knipex The pocket-size Pliers Wrench and Cobra I carry literally everywhere.
